On April 20th, we had planned to celebrate our amazing friends at the Vilcek Foundation at our annual Spring Fête.
In addition to their support of our Studio program, we were very excited to honor the Vilcek Foundation and their president Rick Kinsel because of the extraordinary work they do to raise awareness of immigrant contributions in the United States. Over the past two decades, the foundation has awarded over $10M in prizes and grants that recognize immigrants’ contributions to arts, culture and society.
We are looking forward to celebrating Rick and the Vilcek Foundation in person with you all in 2021. In the meantime, in honor of our shared values, we want to acknowledge that immigrant communities have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These communities are particularly in need as many stimulus programs and emergency grants are not accessible to immigrants, including many artists here in New York City. With that in mind, the Vilcek Foundation and Soho Rep. want to highlight organizations that are providing emergency relief to immigrant communities right now:
Mixteca has created an Emergency Fund to help undocumented immigrant families with little financial support during this pandemic
The Brooklyn Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund program is awarding $10,000 grants to organizations focused on supporting immigrant communities in Brooklyn
- Help Immigrant Freelance Artists for Theatre – Join us in supporting this fundraiser for immigrant theater designers launched by lighting designer Cha See. With your support, 35+ freelance designers who have been impacted by COVID-19 will receive $500 each.
We encourage you to learn more about these great groups, or to consider giving a gift in support of their efforts.
Soho Rep.’s work is all about recognizing the essential value of gathering together in person. We’re excited to do that again with you all in the future, and to share the work of our incredibly creative and resilient community of theater artists.
