Two mediators took the stage to discuss the play through the lens of mediation. Melissa Appleton from The New York Peace Institute and Sandra Nuñez of Hunter College. It was a genuine discussion between audience, mediators and the two performers Marcus Youssef and Jamie Long.
Sandra Mary Nuñez was admitted to the New York Bar in1982 and worked as a law clerk to a New York Supreme Court judge until she developed a solo general law practice, specializing in immigration law, entertainment law, and not for profit law. She was also a pro bono attorney for the Volunteer lawyers for the Arts. From 1998 she specialized in the litigation of high profile international divorce and custody actions. She represented U.S. and foreign clients in divorce, custody, child support actions and actions under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in Federal and State Court, involving the Soviet Union, Chile, Israel, Greece, France, Australia, Iran, Singapore, the UK, Canada, India, Japan, Ireland and Hong Kong. Sandra now incorporates the mediation skills she learned at the Center for Understanding Conflict to resolve legal conflicts. She has co-mediated at the New York Legal Assistance Group in New York and is currently working in Legal Affairs at Hunter College, where she specializes in labor relations.
Melissa Appleton is Program Manager at New York Peace Institute, the leading organization for conflict resolution services and training in New York City. Melissa specializes in co-parenting and youth-involved cases and also mediates criminal, housing and civil matters. Melissa has an undergraduate degree in Peace Studies from Canada and a graduate degree in Peace Education from Columbia University. Prior to joining New York Peace Institute, Melissa was involved in conflict resolution work internationally in Timor-Leste, Kosovo, and Israel.
