Soho Rep is thrilled for three-time Lab member Anne Washburn as her magnificently phantasmagorical play MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY opens Playwright’s Horizons main stage season.
Writes Playwrights Horizons: “What will endure when the cataclysm arrives—when the grid fails, society crumbles, and we’re faced with the task of rebuilding? Anne Washburn’s imaginative dark comedy propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future. A paean to live theater, and to the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, Mr. Burns is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.”
The production is helmed by Lab alum Steve Cosson and features some of Soho Rep’s very favorite actors — Matt Maher (UNCLE VANYA by Annie Baker, ORANGE, HAT & GRACE by Greg Moss, and LEAR by Young Jean Lee), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A PRESENTATION by Jackie Sibblies Drury, born bad by debbie tucker green), Colleen Werthmann (SUITCASE by Melissa James Gibson), and Sam Breslin Wright (Soho Rep’s Summer Camp 6 in 2000).
