Swann’s Way: A Nomadic Reading

Saturday, November 9th, 10am-1pm, Soho Rep., FREE (La Colombe coffee, croissants, orange juice and madeleines included!)

2013: A Year with Proust is the French Embassy’s year-long centennial celebration of Marcel Proust’s Du côté de chez Swann (Grasset, 1913), the first volume of what would become his monumental novel À la recherche du temps perdu.

From November 8 -14, the entirety of Swann’s Way will be read in three hour increments by French & American writers, artists, scholars, and Proust fans over the course of seven days at venues around New York. Each location will echo a major theme of the reading: : A hotel bedroom, for the famous opening pages; The forest of the botanical gardens for Proust’s childhood in the countryside; A theater, to evoke the writer’s fascination with actors; A nightclub, to recall Swann’s late-night searches for the unfaithful Odette…

Friday, November 8, 7-10 pm: Wythe Hotel
Saturday, November 9, 10 am-1 pm: Soho Rep.
Sunday, November 10, 11am-2 pm: New York Botanical Garden Monday, November 11, 7-10 pm: The Oracle Club
