We continue our peek at films that influenced the writing of Jackie Sibblies Drury’s WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A PRESENTATION… These next two films Jackie has categorized as “Awesome movies with race conversations that are actually really smart and/or hilarious!”

First up…Spike Lee’s BAMBOOZLED (2000)
BAMBOOZLED is about a modern televised minstrel show featuring black actors donning blackface makeup and the violent fall-out from the show’s success.

POOTIE TANG (2001)
POOTIE TANG  is written and directed by Louis C.K.. It was adapted from a comedy sketch that first appeared on The Chris Rock Show. The character Pootie Tang is a satire of the stereotyped characters who appeared in old blaxploitation films. His speech, which vaguely resembles pidgin, is mostly unintelligible to the audience, but the other characters in the film have no problem understanding him.
