In our second FEED post-show event we welcomed composer Nico Muhly who was in conversation with Metropolitan Opera Dramaturg Paul Cremo. Nico has worked in most every medium – his opera TWO BOYS premiered at The Met in October, while concurrently he scored the music for the Broadway revival of GLASS MENAGERIE. He has worked in cinema (THE READER, KILL YOUR DARLINGS), in ballet (with Benjamin Millepied), with pop musicians (Bjork, Anthony and the Johnson, Grizzly Bear), and in an orchestral mode.
Muhly chats about how music augments our emotional reaction in these very different mediums, and how music operates in something like a Dion Boucicault melodrama.
With thanks to videographer Joel Clark for capturing the evening.
